CAMPSITE BREAKDOWN
Elk Mountain campsite – [Santa Fe National Forest, NM]
In this month's video I tackle the Elk Mountain trail, fishing the Pecos, scenic trails and that insane overlook at the end. But YouTube only has so much time… so below is the campsite breakdown.

  • Quick Stats Elevation: ~11,000 ft | Rigs: ~3 | Cell: Verizon None, AT&T Marginal | Best seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall

  • Getting There about 10 miles off highway 63. Stock 4×4 rigs can easily make it. Non 4×4 rigs may have trouble. Took about 2 hrs to traverse one way

  • On-Site Details

    • Fire rings: Make your own

    • Privacy: high – super secluded with an amazing view

    • Amenities: None (pack out everything)

  • Pros / Cons Pros: Amazing view far from any other campsite. Cons: Long way from the highway so if you want to fish it’s gonna take awhile to get to the river.

  • Exact Coordinates & Tips Primary spot: 35.77266 -105.58638 Pro hack: If this spot is taken there are other secluded spots which can be found in my gps data, more info on that below.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS
This was my first fly-fishing trip and I didn’t catch any trout. However, my buddy Dan caught some, and eating that fish over the fire was the highlight of the trip for me.

The Trout Sacrifice

We ended the journey at my favorite campsite in Texas.

Welcome to the Palo Duro Canyon
