This newsletter drop summarizes my first trip to both the Ozark and the Ouachita national forests. If you follow the YouTube channel, this will likely answer any questions you had about locations, camp conditions, and points of interest within the video. If you are not a subscriber but are planning a trip this will provide a good starting point and inspiration.

  • Destination 1

    ~Ozark National Forest

This forest consists of 1.2 million acres of land to explore. There are many trails with some being extremely tight and challenging to traverse. Dispersed remote camping is available along the trails usually located along the many rivers that run through the forest. It’s located about five hours from Dallas-Fort Worth and is a great escape for an outdoor adventure.

  • Campsite Location

    ~ Mount Magazine State Park

The peak of this park is the highest point of elevation in Arkansas. It offers tons of opportunities for mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and most importantly, camping with good views. I normally like to camp in more dispersed and remote locations but the bluff view was worth the compromise.

  • Campsite Accessibility

~this campsite is in a state park so it’s accessible to anyone. However, the route we took to get there from Fort Worth was unconventional and exploratory.

  • Trails and Route

~From Fort Worth we travelled to a campsite by a river in the Ouachita forest. I honestly don’t even know the location because this is before I started using OnX. I do know it was by the winding stairs mountain range in Oklahoma.

From there we decided to check out the campsite in the park so we headed that way. The mount magazine park is in a unique part of the Ozark forest. It’s a little patch just above the Ouachita forest. We got there right before the park closed and managed to snag a camping spot.

  • Destination 2

    ~ Ouachita National Forest

This was our last campspot for the trip and it was my first real exposure to this forest. I was in awe at the fact that I’ve lived next to this forest for so long and never knew it existed. The remoteness and solitude along with the endless acres of pine trees solidified the realization that I would be coming back to this place many more times in the future.

  • Campsite Accessibility

~ Trails were not too difficult if I can remember correctly. It was raining pretty good so the only real challenge was the mud. Definitely have 4WD if it’s raining.

  • Trails and Route

~ From Mount Magazine we headed towards Oklahoma. I believe it was north of Broken Bow probably near the Arkansas/Oklahoma border off highway 259 is where we ended up camping. Nothing special about the route or campspot but it was the first time camping, exploring, and filming a YouTube video in the Ouachitas and I knew there was something special about it. Since then it’s been one of my most favorite places to explore and document on video.

Scripture of the month:

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people."

Ephesians 6:18
