This newsletter drop summarizes my first trip to the LBJ National Grasslands. If you follow the YouTube channel, this will likely answer any questions you had about locations, camp conditions, and points of interest within the video. If you are not a subscriber but are planning a trip this will provide a good starting point and inspiration.

  • Destinations

    ~LBJ Grasslands

There are over 20000 acres of land to explore, a few small lakes, and a good amount of dispersed campsites to camp at. There are also 75 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding if that’s your thing.

  • Campsite Location

~ The camp spot is on Forest Service Rd 908 which was found on the OnX app. The exact spot that I was at is huge, I’m thinking its a popular spot for horse trailers that camp and ride for the weekend. Across the trail is a spot right next to a little pond. Would be an amazing cozy camping spot in the cooler months.

My campsite for the night

  • Campsite accessibility

~ The trail to the campsite was is accessible by absolutely any vehicle. The LBJ grasslands is a chill camping/recreational area.

  • Trails and Route

~ All of the trails are easy gravel county and forest service roads that can be accessed by any vehicle.

~ My route started off of FM 730 and then taking a sharp left hand turn onto county road(CR) 2461. After a short drive on 2461 I took a right onto forest service(FS) road 904 which is where you’ll see the welcome sign with some info and maps on it.

Driving a little down 904 I took a right on FS 900 and pulled over to take some drone shots. Those shots made the intro and was a good spot to exercise my drone flying skills. I went a little further down 900 and pulled over on the left hand side and made some hot dogs and had a little reflection on memorial day. Did you serve in the military or know someone who did/has, let me know in the comments of the video.

Going further down 900 I drove by cottonwood lake which is in the very beginning of the video. There are some sweet spots to stop and fish, I even saw a bass boat launch there and fish a little. FS 900 ends at county road 2560 where I took a left turn. Once on CR 2560 I took that a good ways passing by many private lands and houses. Weaving down 2560 I came across CR 2675 and took a left there. Once on 2675 a quick left onto audobon rd followed by a left onto Gossett-Foster rd and then finally a right onto FS 908 which is where the campsite is located. A map for the route is below.

  • Points of interest

~ Cottonwood lake which I mentioned earlier is a great place to stop and fish or just relax. This lake is ideal for kayaking or a small jon boat, but some even take full on bass boats on it.

~ TADRA is the starting point of all the multi-use trails at LBJ, totaling 75 miles of trail for horses, biking, and hiking. This is a good spot to get outside for the day or enjoy there area before setting up camp.

  • Gear notes

~ECOFLOW Delta 2 powerstation with extra battery - this powerstation set up has been working great for me. whether cooking steaks or charging my phone it gets the job done. The only challenge I am facing with it is keeping it charged since I use it so much, but luckily there are some good car charging methods that i’m looking into. https://amzn.to/3LKEr3M

Scripture of the month:

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Matthew 22:37-39
